STEM Industry School Partnerships (SISP)
Creating a future-focused STEM teaching force whose expert knowledge helps to engage and inspire passion within students is the prime goal for the SISP program. SISP is the flagship STEM program from the NSW Department of Education and is delivered in association with industry across NSW. SISP is already working to develop relevant curriculum content, so makes an ideal partner for the iTeachSTEM Education Resources program. Providing additional resources and strategic advice which can help build teacher confidence and abilities in delivering integrated STEM education programs.
One of the benefits of SISP’s involvement is the dynamic nature of their program that adapts to the changing needs of industry, ensuring that content taught remains relevant. Providing job-specific STEM learning, SISP helps increase awareness and interest in the diverse range of jobs available in STEM industries and the pathways that can be taken. Prime skills that students enthusiastically develop include work-readiness aptitudes such as communication, presentation, collaboration, critical-thinking, problem-solving and teamwork.
Engineers Australia (Newcastle Division)
Engineers Australia is the principal engineering association, representing around 100,000 professionals in various roles within Engineering practice. The diverse range of expertise has ensured this professional body, with its proven commitment to industry growth and development, has earned its reputation as a trusted authority, and an ability to work to support government agencies and organisations in endeavours to build strong foundations for Australian industry.
Engineers Australia has long been of the view that support and development of skills in Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics are vital for the future of Australia’s workforce and economy. One of the best reasons to appreciate having Engineers Australia on board and supporting the iTeachSTEM Education Resources program is their experience in championing STEM programs. With established guidelines and lines of communication that source the needs of the industry, Engineers Australia make a perfect partner to help develop an effective STEM program.
The Institute of Technology Education
This non-profit professional teacher association for teachers of Industrial Arts, Engineering, Design and Technology, is run by elected teachers who volunteer their time to support the growth and development of STEM education in New South Wales. Their work is supported by over 300 secondary schools and over 2000 teachers across NSW, and iTE provides support and guidance to the Department of Education and the NSW Education Standards Authority (NESA).
With the resources and expertise that they have within their members, the iTE is an obvious partner to have core involvement in the iTeachSTEM Education Resources program. Ensuring that teachers have a voice into what curriculum content their students find engaging, and that industry has a way to let teachers know vital skills or knowledge gaps that they would like to see filled in order to future proof Australian STEM-based businesses.
