Adam Spencer High Scores

STEM Learning Activity

In this series of problem solving activities produced by Australia’s favourite mathematician Adam Spencer, you will learn about arithmetic and problem solving in a fun yet challenging way. We hope you enjoy.

High Scores

In this video Adam Spencer presents ‘High Scores’. This is a mathematical problem-solving game developed by Adam and Sean Gardner from the UNSW some years ago for one of his many books. ‘High Scores’ is a great way for students to learn about arithmetic and the mathematical concept of order of operations. In the game students need to place given numbers as well as mathematical operations (+, – , x, ÷ ) in the correct order to satisfy an equation.
Later you will be given a set of numbers you need to satisfy the equation, but this time you need to do so in such a way to record the ‘High Score’
